In todays society I feel that instead of us choosing brands, brands choose us. There so much more detail and research going into the sweet spot of the consumer. Especially with technology and hows it changing how we look at brands. If our favorite brands are not on the internet in some way we find them to be outdated. With so many different kinds of brands for the same product as consumers were looking for more then just a name.
During the in class discussion I was actually surprised with what brands are creating using the internet. The new thing that has consumers interested are Apps, if its smart phone, ipod or computer Apps there's something out there for everyone. One of my favorite Apps that we talked about in class was the Nike running app. An App that creates a brand experience for nike and while you run. Records how long you have ran for and previous runs. This is can be a helpful resource for people to continue there healthy life style. This experience is create using Nike and while running.

Most of the television I watch is on the TV or from downloaded sources on the internet. I find when stream you TV from the internet its not as best quality and can freeze. Some hosting website will have a limit on how much you can watch a day or even a g size. You may not be able to find all TV shows on line, but you can find them on the hosted channel.
Even though downloading is illegal I seem to find a way around it and get the things I need. I think when I can find something for free why pay for it? Depending on the product and brand I will take the time and money to purchase it.
Welcome to Aviary
When I was first introduced to this on line application website I was shocked. I couldn’t believe that you could use an online photo shop and other editing systems. As a strong believer in the Adobe suites I am little wiry of using something that is hosted online rather then right of my computer. Its a good idea for people who just need to edit something quickly or just for there hobby. I understand the photos after wards are copy right to the website and they can use it how they please. Unless the user paid for an actual account they would have control over the photos (copyright). As an advertising student I would not feel comfortable using the program for my schooling or clients. Its a good idea if you want to fool around with a photo.

The Oscars. (Should I really care?)
Oscars vs Twitter
The first thing I did to see the buzz about the oscars was twitter. As I typed in the Oscars in the search engine, it only gave tagged status updates. I found this difficult to find general information. It was more non-celebrities asking questions and saying who was going to win.
TheAcademy The Academy
by oscar_awards
Did you know - Of the 152 nominees at today’s luncheon, 6 are double nominees & 2 are triple nominees. #Oscars
Once I found the main holding page for the oscars I navigated myself around there profile. People say if you’re going to use twitter then you should have at least 3 posts a day that have nothing to do with the company/event. So they’re accomplishing this, but I feel that the information is to scattered for me. There were a few post from celebrities talking about the event. Now this can appeal to people depending on what there talking about. Examples: What are they wearing to the event, who there bringing, who they think will win awards, etc.
Oscars vs Facebook
When I first came across the facebook page I found it way easier to view the information. Facebook is more interactive compared twitter with just there status posts. If someone who wanted to follow and keep up to date with the Oscars facebook is one of the easiest site to use. Defiantly be one stop trip to get all the videos photos and share your thoughts and ideas with other.
For me I honestly don’t really care about the Oscars. I can barely remember actors name let alone if they win awards. I feel I better things to interest myself in then keeping my heads in the clouds with the celebrities.
Brand Of Algonquin
When it comes to the advertising world its all about connections. We may not of thought this before in first year, but as we progressed through the years all our fellow classmates are actually connections. Using Linkedin is amazing because when you have a connection with someone it will show other possible connections that might interest you. Which could led to a job, which then to a career. I personally just got a behancenetwork account which is online portfolio site. It host my portfolio so I can use this link to send to agencies when applying for a job. As well as you can view other creative peoples work and like them and comment on them. You never know who you will meet how they will effect you and where they’ll take you in life. So remember don’t make enemies and treat others with respect, regardless of how you actually feel for them.

Social Media
Social media is on the top of mind of all consumers and advertisers. I can remember when my parents got dial up internet, I was so excited. One of the first social media I used was MSN which followed to Myspace, Facebook then twitter. I find that there a variety of different social medias both consumers and brands can use.
Its seem almost brand is on Facebook or twitter because they want to be "social." The question is are they utilizing these medias to the best there advantage. Or are brands just overwhelming and annoying consumers.
Facebook: Reese
"Rumor has it, at first the groundhog refused to come out. Said he was holding out for REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups"
I always enjoy the status available on Reese profile. On every status makes me smile and have about 400 likes on each. They update every few days, with pictures and videos. I found that this isn't really promoting anything, but giving an intimate feeling for the viewer. Making them feel apart of the brand rather than just purchasing it.
Twitter: Old Spice
Everyone knows Old Spice as the manly man smell. There twitter post represent the brand to the fullest. Promoting new products and competitions.
"Wherever there are men, there is a need for men to smell like men." - Old Spice
I find it depends on the brand if it will work with a social media. Sometimes you will find brands that use Facebook or twitter but barely post anything. Or if they do post something its just useless information that takes over my news feed.

Guerrilla Marketing
One of the first things that caught my eye in advertising was Guerrilla Marketing and its creative way to catch your attention. Using a low budget to create a big idea which will leave an imprint in the consumers mind. Its the idea of using non-traditional advertising to get the message to the consumer in a way they may have not seen before.
The agency is going beyond demographics and psychographics to find the target audience.
This was an example used in class which affect our feelings and essentials for life.
The key to success with Guerrilla advertising is keep it simple and pure. Consumers don't have time to deal with complicated ads or messages. You have one target and one message.
Gurreilla is one of my favorite forms of advertising. I've always found myself interested in areas that test the limits of the box. It's unexpected and can be very successful if used in the right way. The only time I've been exposed to this type of advertising is looking up examples on the net. Some of them are amazing and others not so much.
Examples that I like:
This one has to be probably one of my favorite. I was actually in Boston and saw a few of these. I found that this was semi successfully. The police thought this was a bomb threat or something along terrorist. The light boxes were quickly taken down. They definitely received a lot of publicity about the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie.
Examples I DO NOT LIKE.
Broken Social Scene
When you interact with other people you treat them the way you want to be treated while respecting their boundaries and who they are as a person. For example, when someone has broken a belonging of yours it is okay as long as the proceeding actions are handled appropriately. Another example includes the public courtesy and common knowledge that you not to fart in public. As humans we may not want to admit it, but we are constantly thinking about and battling our appearance and how others perceive us. A person’s appearance can say a lot about them: from their hair, clothing and even shoes. We want to be regarded as cool and attractive individuals in other’s eyes. When I look at the average person they follow the trends that make them think and feel like an individual with a good appearance. These are advertiser’s favourite consumers, because they are easily won over by advertising.
In my eyes they are more followers as compared to “unique” individuals. Some of the favourite fads of consumerism today, as well as some of the popular brands among consumers seem to be UGG boots, Bench and Lulu Lemon. Personally, I am not against these brands but the idea and reasoning behind why people like them as well as the outrageous prices of these products. Advertisers look at all the habits of consumers such as comparing the brands they are shopping for and the factors that affect their decisions. From these factors, advertisers decide which media sources will be used in order to target the appropriate audience. Advertising pays for our Television shows, Radio and even controls the content within magazines and newspapers. As much as consumers may not like advertising and their being controlled by such advertising, the consumers need to realize they are the one’s calling all of the shots. Consumers tell brands what they like and what they don’t like and without even realizing it, we the consumer are making the rules.
We give brands our attention, we expect it back.
Brands need to sell and companies exist to sell products.
Consumers make repeat purchases with brands because they feel a sense of belonging and enjoy its familiarity of these brands. Sometimes I find it difficult to choose a brand of tooth paste as I think to myself “what is the difference between them all, really?” It can be overwhelming at times and thus find myself rotating between Crest and Colgate. What kind of coffee do you purchase? Star Bucks, Tim Hortons, or a generic grocery store brand? Is all coffee the same or does the price of it make you think it tastes better? Brands can mean everything to one consumer while the cost means nothing and vice versa. This could be called the Brand shopper VS Price shopper. The final decision comes down to the brands they recognize, and how do they recognize it? Advertising.
Audience = Passive meaning the advertiser are controlling the contact
