Social media is on the top of mind of all consumers and advertisers. I can remember when my parents got dial up internet, I was so excited. One of the first social media I used was MSN which followed to Myspace, Facebook then twitter. I find that there a variety of different social medias both consumers and brands can use.
Its seem almost brand is on Facebook or twitter because they want to be "social." The question is are they utilizing these medias to the best there advantage. Or are brands just overwhelming and annoying consumers.
Facebook: Reese
"Rumor has it, at first the groundhog refused to come out. Said he was holding out for REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups"
I always enjoy the status available on Reese profile. On every status makes me smile and have about 400 likes on each. They update every few days, with pictures and videos. I found that this isn't really promoting anything, but giving an intimate feeling for the viewer. Making them feel apart of the brand rather than just purchasing it.
Twitter: Old Spice
Everyone knows Old Spice as the manly man smell. There twitter post represent the brand to the fullest. Promoting new products and competitions.
"Wherever there are men, there is a need for men to smell like men." - Old Spice
I find it depends on the brand if it will work with a social media. Sometimes you will find brands that use Facebook or twitter but barely post anything. Or if they do post something its just useless information that takes over my news feed.
